Occupational Health Consultancy

Physiotherapy rehabilitation – onsite/home/clinic

For injured workers Activity Matters help to restore work capacity and optimising function work capacity. We achieve this at Activity Matters by identifying and address the factors contributing to each individual’s pain and disability empowering the individual in a collaborative approach. Our service is strongly aligned to the WorkCover WA endorsed Clinical Framework for the Delivery for Health Services.

As part of the early identification of the at risk injured worker there are several key areas we include they are:

Early Intervention Physiotherapy

Early intervention for injuries results in a quicker recovery and reduces lost time injuries. Our experienced Physiotherapists promote the health benefits of early return to work, at an appropriate capacity, to injured workers. We empower the worker and ensure they are central in understanding their injury and the recovery process. Preventing absence from the workplace can reduce the relative risk of chronic injury and persistent pain. Immediate updates are provided to RTW coordinators regarding progressing work capacity and suitable modified duties

Independent Physiotherapy Assessment

Activity Matters provides tailored and effective injury services’ to assist in achieving an optimal outcome for injured workers for cases that are complex or not progressing as expected. The Independent Physiotherapy Assessment (IPA) service provides businesses/insurers with the following high quality components:

  • clinical justification for physiotherapy/ rehabilitation requirements (if required)

  • identification of goals and provision of recommendations for the injured worker to achieve the best outcome

  • assessment integrating the worker's functional capacity and return to work status

  • identification of key areas to assist with empowering the injured worker to manage their injury

  • utilisation of physical & psychosocial outcome measures in decision making

This may range from the frequency of treatment to the need for treatment or the type of intervention required to assist with addressing barriers to recovery.

Worksite Review/Assessment

This assessment is helpful in identifying the functional demands of a worker’s pre-injury demands and duties. A comprehensive report is provided detailing the worksite assessment, the worker's current functional capacity, the duties available and those that were identified as being safe for the worker to perform. A graduated return to work plan can also be provided (detailing duties and hours) that assists the injured worker to return to their pre-injury duties.

Job Profiling/Dictionary

A Job Profile/Dictionary involves a detailed analysis of the inherent physical demands of a role; the environment, PPE required, role specific equipment and work schedule. This identifies the physical capacity required and can be used for Pre-employment functional assessments, fitness for work assessments and to assist the return to work process.

Injury Prevention

Our individual or group education sessions are designed to assist employees develop good manual handling strategies, this incorporates behavioural change principles. Our injury prevention programs are tailored to the individual workplace and include a strong emphasis on practical tasks that the workers are required to perform in order to improve transference of techniques into daily work practices.

Our individual or group education sessions on dynamic warm up and stretching routines are designed to minimise workplace injuries and increase worker productivity.

Pain Management

  • Persistent pain involves all systems in the body, not just the site of injury. Our approach utilises cognitive behavioural principles in order to educate the injured individual and reduce excessive illness/pain behaviours. Our programs are conducted by highly skilled physiotherapists.

  • Our individualised approach includes a comprehensive assessment, Education & Lifestyle advice, Management plan, Exercise rehabilitation, Hands on treatment as indicated, Liaison with other care provider

Functional Capacity Assessment

This assessment is individualised and designed to capture the worker’s current functional capacity. An FCA/FFW is a useful assessment tool to identify what the worker can achieve physically against the critical physical demands of a job role (either pre-injury duties or potential new duties). This assessment uses a combination of standardised tests and work-specific tasks to assess suitability to return to work.

This includes an objective report documenting the worker's injury history, capacity to perform their pre-injury duties, as well as opinions and recommendations regarding capacity to perform modified/alternative duties and future rehabilitation needs.

Functional Capacity & Fitness for Work Assessments

  • This assessment is individualised and designed to capture the worker’s current functional capacity.  An FCA/FFW is a useful assessment tool to identify what the worker can achieve physically against the critical physical demands of a job role (either pre-injury duties or potential new duties). Exercise Rehabilitation

  • An individualised exercise program is integral to any rehabilitation plan. Our physiotherapists prescribe graded and function- specific exercise programs that progress the individual towards increasing their physical capacity and tolerance for the specific demands of any role.

  • Exercise programs can carried out at home, in the pool for hydrotherapy, in the gym, or even at the workplace.
